This is the moment when what’s now known as @encorerockmovement was born. 🖤 Seven years ago this month, April put together a fitness birthday class called “Rock My Birthday”. Rock music has always been her fave and it was something she sprinkled into her classes when she could. 🤘🏻 But this class was FULL of it! It was so much fun and people started begging for it to be added to the schedule. So we did. And it was a hit! It’s changed names a time or two (thanks to trademarking rules), and evolved quite a bit in the last seven years. It’s crazy that this one class led to the rock-n-roll fitness experience that we love now! 😍 Thank you to everyone that has been part of this journey and thank you for all of your love and support. 🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻 Rock on!

But the aspect we are most looking forward to is the ceiling that has been shattered by @kamalaharris being elected Vice-President! The doors opening for inclusion, diversity, representation, and all the things that we value in our lives and businesses is amazing! ✨ And while it could be easy to sit back and assume that everything will work out, NOW is the time for action and accountability. It is our responsibility to make sure the 2021 administration are held accountable for their promises. And it is time that WE become accountable for our own actions and make calculated decisions to move forward in creating the world we deserve. 🥰 So as I said on my personal page today, it’s time to “lace ‘em up and get ready to put in the work” because our shoes aren’t just for walking through the shattered glass, they are for walking with each other towards inclusion, representation, diversity, compassion, and the future. -April Smith, Program Creator 🖤🤘🖤

And that’s why we have chosen to always show you REAL PEOPLE with REAL BODIES. This isn’t just a fitness class, it’s a movement to love our bodies while on our journey to life-long health and fitness. Our classes will always be OPEN TO ALL and it’s no secret that as a program we choose to support other businesses, programs, and organizations fighting for equal and basic rights for ALL humans. If you find that you don’t feel like we are a good fit for you, that’s okay. Not all programs work for everyone. But we are HERE for everyone and if you’re still here, we are glad to share our spaces with you. We see you. We love you. And we will keep standing up for you. 🖤🖤

While I have been following the recent events and been very vocal on my personal platforms, I was asked how I would feel if MY business was one that was destroyed this last week by the looting and rioting. For those of you that know me personally, you will know the truth in this... I would personally burn my own business to the ground if I thought it would save even one single life. No life is replaceable.

It has always been and will always be important for us to stand with our Black instructors, participants, and other community members (and that includes those of you we don't even know yet). We are here with you. We love you. You matter.
